#1 – The History

Gigantic music festivals that have sprung up in the United States have largely done so in the past few decades. The New Orleans Jazz Festival dates all the way back to 1970, when a number of bold and confident producers and talent scouts combined with a number of confident and bold musicians anxious to work their magic and represent the essence of the great city.

The initial years were fueled by many great jazz musicians from the first half of the 20th century, including Mahalia Jackson, Fats Domino and Duke Ellington.

#2 – The Locale

The Festival was hosted in a few different regions before it found its permanent modern home at the Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans. The large, oval-shaped track allows horses to compete against one another hunderds of times per year in order to see who is the fastest over the course of 1 mile.

The large track also portions off a huge inner-circle, where this massive festival is hosted every spring. The “infield” is what the area inside of a racetrack is often called, and it is very seldom accessed by fans. It is never accessed by fans during horserace, but this is an entirely different affair.

#3 – The Lineup

The New Orleans Jazz Festival 2017 lineup was recently released to the general public. One can imagine that a festival historic in terms of both size, popularity and longevity has a huge list of major artists lining up to perform shows. This is true.

A quick trip through the gigantic names of the lineup include Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Maroon 5, Snoop Dogg, Earth, Wind & Fire, Tower of Power, Patty LaBelle, Alabama Shakes, and Harry Connick Jr. Additionally, Blues Traveler, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, and Usher & The Roots will all play sizable performances, reuniting themselves with their fans in a true global epicenter of music entertainment. There are a number of stages with huge platforms for performing and coverings that protect against the elements, although no one is expecting weather to be any type of issue in Louisiana in late-spring.

#4 – The Posters

Music Festival and concert posters are largely a thing of the past, relics of the 1960s and 70s, when very talented artists would be commissioned to bring the idea of the upcoming event to life via an image.

This practice lives on in the New Orleans Jazz Festival. The two colorful and amazing posters that will be the official representations of this year’s event were recently released. Both are impressive renditions of the spirit and vibe that is present throughout this highly-anticipated annual event.
