Little Caesars Arena is set to open in the heart of downtown Detroit later this year. Dialed-in companies in the engineering and architectural genres were commissioned to build an arena on what was essentially a large expanse of unused land. The venue is located just a short walk from Comerica Park, the permanent home of the Detroit Tigers.
A Star From Detroit
Kid Rock has confirmed he is going to play a small handful of shows to inaugurate the new building that has been carefully put together by some of the most esteemed companies in Michigan. Indeed, Kid Rock – the man born Robert Ritchie – has walked a sometimes crooked line straight to greatness.
In the last half-century, the main Detroit entertainment venue for concerts, boxing matches, basketball, ice hockey and an array of other entertainment options was Joe Louis Arena. It was built in the late 1970s and opened to the greater Detroit area in December 1979. The stadium hosted a slew of huge events, making a huge difference in the overall sporting entertainment mood of the city of Detroit.
Now comes the time where local fans are ready to move on, and Little Caesars Arena is going to be the new epicenter of downtown indoor ice hockey, basketball and live concerts.
As far as the specifics go, Little Caesars Arena is already becoming known for being a modern twist on Joe Louis Arena. For instance, seats in the lower and upper decks are exactly 21 inches wide as of now. At Joe Louis Arena, lower deck seats were 18 inches wide. Upper deck seats are 17 inches wide. Additionally, the new venue is buried three stories below ground level, making it blend perfectly with the surrounding landscape.
Kid Rock was born in the early 1970s in Romeo, Michigan. He boasted recently that he earned an abundance of white trash street cred by becoming a grandfather in his early-40s. He is now 46 years old and ready to embark on a collection of shows that will allow him to be one of the first acts to ever take the stage at the newly-minted venue. It is a beautiful artistic juxtaposition, because the Detroit-native has always fancied himself as a man from the south side of the tracks, so to speak.
Rock has released exactly 10 studio albums since his first release, entitled “Grits Sandwiches for Breakfast,” dropped in 1990. He didn’t actually gain true traction in the rap music game until after the turn-of-the-century. His self-entitled album came in 2003, and helped propel him to the level of success that he experiences to this day. His most recent studio release came in 2015, with First Kiss.
