Latin pop superstar Shakira recently turned 40, and the Colombian-born native that rose to prominence by way of her dynamite vocals and dynamic hips announced the specifics of her upcoming world tour. For all fans interested in attending the North American portions, here are four things you should know.
The Initial Facts
Every World Tour worth a damn involves dates in Europe, and Shakira’s run will begin with a huge performance in Cologne, Germany on the evening of November 8. Two nights later, she will play Paris before weaving through Spain for four shows before traipsing back to France and Germany once more.
Her first United States show is at the Amway Center on the evening of January 9. Fans can expect a renewed performer thrilled about staging the hits on her most recent chart-topping album in front of fans. Shakira is 40, but that’s just a number. She’s ready to make 40 look like 25 while working her magic.
One would have to go all the way back to 2011 to find the last time that Shakira toured the world. She released a self-entitled studio album in 2014 before dropping El Dorado on fans just a handful of weeks ago. It has quickly soared to the top of the Latin Billboard rankings, sounding the proverbial whistles of fans interested in attending live tour dates this year and the next.
The US Tour Specifics
A total of 18 North American shows have been announced and revealed, and tickets to each and every one are currently available now. After the aforementioned Orlando show at the Amway Center on January 9, Shakira will play twice more in The Sunshine State when she stages shows in Sunrise and Miami.
The tour will hit Madison Square Garden on January 17 before two shows in Canada at the Bell Centre and the Air Canada Centre in the following days. Three Texas shows will take place in the final days of January before the tour weaves out West for a slew of shows in California, highlighted by a February 1 show at The Forum in Los Angeles. The fun will wrap up with a performance at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on the evening of February 10.
Along with being a record recorder, Shakira is also a record setter in many ways. As far as Sony records go, Shakira is the single most popular Colombian artist of all time, checking in at as high as 60 million records sold, according to the most recent count.
Her song “Hips Don’t Lie” did amazing things during the first decade of the 21st century, including becoming the single most popular single in all the music world, according to popular website Yahoo!. She received a Latin Grammy in 2011 for Person of the Year, and she has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as of a few years ago.
The powers that be behind the popular endeavor that runs up-and-down Hollywood Boulevard initially offered her an exclusive spot all the way back in 2004, but she rejected. Over half decade ago, she decided to forever cement her handprints into modern-day American entertainment history.
